A Sickness

It is reported that People Magazine, a magazine that is devoted to chronicaling the lives of celebrities, has bought the rights to a first-photo opportunity of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twin babies for $14 Million. In a downward-spiraling economy and with so many people around the world suffering with disease and starvation, spending $14 Million on baby picture rights is not just inappropriate, its is completely unethical. In fact, it is immoral. There has been mention that Pitt and Jolie will give the money to charity, but that made no difference to the magazine who paid the sum. Celebrity worship has reached ridiculous proportions.

As Christians, we should be intentional about how we spend our time and money, as to reflect Christ in them. What started out as innocent curiosity, has turned into sinful gossip, slander, greed, and idolatry. Why should we devote the money that God gives us to that? Christians, we are in the world, and that is good. We must remember to not be of it, however. Let's make wiser choices with our money and deflate the obviously overstocked coffers of the magazines and movie studios.
