Phelps' Eight Gold Medals

As most of you have likely heard, Michael Phelps has obtained eight gold medals in each of his eight distance swimming finals. He has broken numerous world and olympic speed records, and he has passed Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals. History has been made.

Yet, like Shawn Johnson, he has maintained a positive, encouraging, humility. When asked about his relay wins, he talks about the efforts of his team-mates, when asked about his individual races, he talks about his mother and his coach. He is truly a great athlete. It is this attitude, not the gold medals, that exemplify the Olympic games. Someday, someone will surpass Michael Phelps' record times, and someone will be able to win nine medals in nine races. Michael Phelps will be eclipsed. But his attitude, and his passion help to fuel, and correct, our generation in the present. Thanks, Michael. Keep up the good work.
